What is a Dosha?

Dosha (दोष/தோஷம்) literally means “fault,” “defect,” or “affliction” in Sanskrit.

Simple Explanation: A dosha is an imbalance or affliction in the birth chart that can create challenges in specific areas of life.

CHEVVAI DOSHAM - செவ்வாய் தோஷம்

What is Chevvai Dosham?

Chevvai Dosham (செவ்வாய் தோஷம்) is also called:

• Mangal Dosha (मङ्गल दोष) in North India
• Kuja Dosha (कुज दोष) in Sanskrit
• Angaraka Dosha in some regions

Definition: When Mars (Chevvai/செவ்வாய்) is placed in certain houses from Lagna (Ascendant), it creates Chevvai Dosham.

Why it’s feared: Chevvai Dosham primarily affects married life, causing:

• Conflicts with spouse
• Delays in marriage
• Separation or divorce
• Spouse’s health issues
• Early widowhood (in severe cases)

Important Context: Mars is a fiery, aggressive planet (Bhatru Karaka - sibling significator, warrior energy). When placed in marriage-related houses, its aggressive nature can harm marital harmony.

Houses that Create Chevvai Dosham

Chevvai Dosham is formed when Mars is in 6 specific houses from Lagna:

Most Dangerous Positions:

1. 8th House - Affects spouse’s longevity (most feared)
2. 7th House - Direct affliction to marriage house
3. 1st House - Self’s aggressive nature

Important Note: Some astrologers also check Mars from Moon (Chandra Lagna) and Venus (Shukra). A person can have:

• Chevvai Dosham from Lagna only

• Chevvai Dosham from both (stronger dosha)
• No dosha from either (blessed!)

Full vs Partial Chevvai Dosham

Not all Chevvai Doshas are equal! There are levels:

Example 1: Full Dosham

• Mars in 8th from Moon (Moon in Virgo, Mars in Aries 8th)

CANCELLATIONS of Chevvai Dosham - தோஷம் நீக்கம்

Great News! Chevvai Dosham has many natural cancellations. These are called Dosha Bhangam (தோஷ பங்கம்).

If ANY of these conditions apply, Chevvai Dosham is CANCELLED or GREATLY REDUCED:

1. Age-Based Cancellation (வயது முறை)

Why? Mars matures at age 28. After this, its aggressive energy becomes disciplined.

Practical Advice: If you have Chevvai Dosham, marrying after 28 is beneficial!

2. Both Have Chevvai Dosham (பொருத்தம்)

If BOTH bride and groom have Chevvai Dosham:
